CATIA V5 Foundation

4-day introduction to fundamental concepts behind Part Design, Assembly Design, and Drafting. Suitable for new users, self-taught engineers, and users coming from other 3D CAD packages.

Objectives: Understand Sketcher workbench and tools/commands; Create fundamental solid features – Pad, Pocket, Hole, Shaft, Groove, Shell; Apply Dress-Up features – Fillet, Chamfers, Drafts and Stiffeners; Understand the need for Reference Geometry and Axis Systems; Introduction to Reusing Data – Feature Patterns, Power Copies; Apply materials and measure components; Create parameters and understand formula editor; Understand basics of assemblies – Building product structure, move and constrain parts; Introduction to designing in context; Understand basics of drafting – creating views, dimensioning and annotating.

CATIA V5 Foundation Plus

Start a complex design project from its specifications (top-down approach) and complete it by reusing existing data. This 4 day course will focus on advanced skills and concepts that enable you to create and analyse complex parts and assemblies.

Objectives: Create a complex model and structured model; Design parts in context of an assembly; Re-use existing data to complete assemblies; Manage relationships between assembled parts; Analyse and annotate your design.

Pre-Requisites: knowledge of CATIA V5 Foundation

CATIA V5 Quick Surface Reconstruction

This course will teach you how to use CATIA features in Quick Surface Reconstruction (QSR) workbench in the Reverse Engineering phase to create surfaces using a given Point Cloud data. You will also learn how to use these features in a real-time industrial scenario. The QSR course is specifically geared towards Surface Designers and attendees would benefit from attending Digitised Shape Editor training.

Objectives: Create surfaces using a given Point Cloud data and learn how to use these features in real-time industrial scenarios; Create scans from point cloud data and use them to draw curves and surfaces; Create model and fillet model; Create deviation analysis and annotations.

Pre-Requisites: Students attending this course should know the fundamentals of CATIA V5.  They should also be familiar with Surface Design in CATIA V5 and the Digitised Shape Editor product.

CATIA V5 Digitised Shape Editor

Learn how to use Digitised Shape Editor (DSE) to import and use digitised data (scans or clouds of points). You will also learn how to create meshes and extract characteristic curves from the data. The course focuses mainly on Reverse Engineering techniques.
 

Objectives: Import and process a digitized points cloud data; Create a tessellated mesh on the points cloud data; Extract characteristic curves from the data; Export the result to other file formats

Pre-Requisites: Students attending this course should have knowledge of CATIA V5 Foundation. 

CATIA V5 Surface Design

3-day course teaches how to create curves and surfaces using Generative Shape Design (GSD) workbench; analyse wire-frame and surface quality and rectify defects, if any, as well as how to work in multi-model environment with published surfaces.

Objectives: Understand and use the tools in the Generative Shape Design workbench; Create good quality curves based on sound and improved wire-frame geometry; Assemble, re-limit and connect the surfaces to get a topology; Analyse surface quality and rectify the defects; Manage surfaces in a multi-model environment


Pre-Requisites:
Students attending this course should know the fundamentals of CATIA V5. We have a few scheduled course dates available. 31 August – 2 September; 11-13 October; 22-24 November 2021. 

CATIA V5 Interrogators

Learn to interrogate and capture information from existing Parts, Drawings and Assemblies using CATIA V5 on this 2-day course. The course is not intended to teach the creation of CATIA parts, drawings and assemblies and is purely for the extraction of engineering information. However, the course will include some simple part, drawing and assembly creation to aid understanding.

Pre-Requisites: Students attending this course should know the fundamentals of CATIA V5. 

CATIA V5 Manufacturing (Standard)

4-Day Standard CATIA V5 Manufacturing training course will allow the trainee to learn prismatic and surface machining techniques, clash detection, efficient process methodology and more. Learn to create a Manufacturing Program, simulate it and generate outputs; Define and manage prismatic (2,5 axis) operations, being aware of all capabilities in terms of strategies, parameters and transition paths and more.

 

Objectives: Create a Manufacturing Program, simulate it and generate outputs; Define and manage prismatic (2,5 axis) operations, being aware of all capabilities in terms of strategies, parameters and transition paths; Define and manage NC programs dedicated to machining parts designed with Surface or Solid geometry using 3-Axis machining techniques; Use the PMPA to define and manage NC programs to machine parts designed in 3D Wireframe or Solid geometry with 2.5 Axis machining operations and how this product assists the NC programmer in making the link between Design and Manufacturing.

Students attending this course should know the fundamentals of CATIA V5.

CATIA V5 Manufacturing (Advanced)

Following on from Standard Manufacturing training, this 2-day course develops your manufacturing processes and machining operations using CATIA V5.

Objectives: Create and generate high-quality NC programs for machining complex 3D parts using Multi-Axis machining techniques; Create and generate high-quality NC programs for machining complex free-form shapes using Multi-Axis machining techniques; Learn to define 5-Axis machining operations

 

Pre-Requisites: Students attending this course should have completed the Standard CATIA Manufacturing training.
CATIA V5 Composites Design

4-day CATIA V5 Composite Design and Manufacturing preparation course is based on the Composite Design workbench functionality provided by the CPE & CPM products. The course will cover a complete end-to end process including taking basic input data (required thicknesses, materials, stacking sequence rules) and using it to design the plies, preparing the design for manufacture and producing a plybook, or set of flattened ply profiles in DXF or IGES file format. The design process is covered in two stages: a “Preliminary Design” stage in which the composite part is designed at a conceptual level by defining “Zones” of uniform laminate on the reference surface, and defining transitions where the thicknesses vary; and a “Detailed Design” stage where the preliminary design data is efficiently used to create a “Stacking” of individual plies. You will also learn how to prepare the design for manufacture by analysing and modifying the plies, individually or in multiples, to design-out the potential manufacturing issues that can come from poor draping or incorrect ply stack ordering.
The Design & Manufacturing Prep (CPE & CPM) topics are covered together in this course over 4 days. However, DTE can offer training in Design only (CPE) over 3 days, and Manufacturing Prep only (CPM) over 2 days on request. DTE can also offer training in the Composite Grid Design approach (CPG).

Objectives Become familiar with the CATIA Composite Design workbench interface; Create a catalog of Composite materials; Define the composite parameters (materials, ply orientations, laminates); Define a zone-based preliminary design; Define zone laminates in MS Excel and import into the Zone definition in CATIA; Create solids / top surfaces from zones; Define the ply stacking sequence in MS Excel and import into CATIA; Create plies from the zone definition (with pre-defined stacking sequence), or create individual plies manually without zones; Define and incorporate composite cores; Define the ply staggering in MS Excel and import into CATIA; Verify the design using the Core Sampling, Ply Exploder, 3D Sectioning, and Numerical Analysis tools; Analyse the plies with the Producibility Analysis tool (draping analysis); Modify plies based on producibility analysis results.
Engineering / Manufacturing surface swapping; Add excess materials to plies for edge trimming; Ply flattening; Ply book generation and export of DXF/IGS files.

Pre-Requisites: Students attending this course should have knowledge of Part Design, Assembly Design, Drafting, and Wireframe & Surface Design.

CATIA V5 Electrical Design

This 4-day CATIA V5 Electrical Harness Design & Documentation training course teaches you the complete electrical harness design and drafting workflow, from setting up the CATIA environment for electrical design work to detailed 3D harness design and drawing creation.

Objectives: Build and manage an electrical components catalogue; Define electrical behaviour on device models; Connect electrical devices within an assembly; Design the 3D harness bundle segments in the assembly context.
Connect harness bundle segments to electrical components; Define and apply protective coverings to the harness bundle segments; Easily modify the harness routing by adding, removing, replacing routing points and harness support components; Understand & manage the links between the harness model and the parts to which it has been routed (assembly contextual links); Import electrical wiring schematic data form an external ECAD system; Synchronise the 3D harness model with the external ECAD data; Automatically route wires through the 3D harness based on the external ECAD data; Generate detailed reports for your harness such as bundle segment lists, routed wire lists (including complete wire lengths).
Harness flattening to prepare for drawing creation; Detailed drawing creation for “form board” manufacturing or inspection purposes; Accelerate drawing creation by learning how to define intelligent text templates and electrical drafting catalogues; Introduction to defining “Generative View Styles” for customization of electrical drawing view creation.

Pre-Requisites: Students attending this course should have knowledge of CATIA V5 (Foundation), Part Design, Assembly Design and Drafting workbenches. Prior knowledge of the Catalogue Editor would be advantageous but not essential.

CATIA V5 Digital Mock-Up Navigator

This CATIA V5 Digital Mock-Up (DMU) Navigator training course will teach you how to manipulate a Digital Mock-Up in the context of an engineering review. You will also learn how to create simulations for review presentations.

Objectives: Manipulate a Digital Mock-Up; Create simulations for review presentations; Review basic and advanced functionalities of DMU navigator workbench; Modify properties of components and position them; Manage the mock-up configurations using scenes; Save specific mock-up configurations for analysis; Create annotated views of a mock-up for sharing

Pre-Requisites: This review course is geared towards Mechanical Designers and Managers.

CATIA V5 Kinematics

This CATIA V5 Kinematics course is based on the DMU Kinematics workbench functionality provided by the KIN product.
The course will teach you how to build working mechanisms by defining mechanical joints between assembly components and driving “commands” by which the mechanism can be manipulated.  You will learn how to simulate the mechanism to study its motion and carry out various analyses to evaluate the mechanism design.

CATIA V5 Automation (VBA)

This CATIA V5 Automation (VBA) training course will introduce you to the automation process in CATIA using the Visual Basic language. Learn how to create macros in CATIA V5 using Visual Basic for Applications in a variety of fundamental areas.

CATIA Composer

In this CATIA Composer (previously 3DVIA Composer) training course you will learn how to open and navigate in a model with CATIA Composer. You will capture views of a model, add annotations and change rendering, create technical illustrations and high-resolution images. Moreover, this course will teach you how to create animations and then publish and share the CATIA Composer content.

CATIA V5 Generative Sheetmetal Design

This Fundamental CATIA V5 Generative Sheetmetal Design (SMD) course will teach you how to design a sheet metal part using associative feature-based modeling. Suitable for the new user, self-taught engineers and users coming from other 3D CAD packages. Design a sheet metal part using associative feature-based modelling; Learn how to integrate both standard and user-defined stamped features into your designs and calculate the resulting flat patterns in accordance with either the standard bend allowances or your company’s bend allowance tables.

Objectives: Understand the terminology and the design process for creating a sheetmetal part; Define and manage the sheetmetal part parameters; Design walls, bends, and flanges; Add features such as cutouts, holes, corners, and chamfers; Create standard and user-defined stamped features; Manage folded and unfolded views and export a finished flat pattern

CATIA V5 3D Functional Tolerance & Annotation

This CATIA V5 3D Functional Tolerancing and Annotation training course will teach you how to create annotation planes in a CATPart and how to add and manage 3D annotations on these planes. Learn how to create 3D views in the CATPart and how to use them to create 2D views in a CATDrawing.

Objectives: Create 3D views in the CATPart and how to use them to create 2D views in a CATDrawing; Add 3D annotations to a part; Manage and position annotations; Create and manage annotation planes and views; Manage the 3D geometry associated to the 3D annotations

Pre-Requisites: Students attending this course should have completed the CATIA V5 Foundation Plus training course.

CATIA V5 Finite Element Analysis

This 3-day FEA course is based on Generative Part Structural Analysis Fundamentals (GPF); Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert (GPE); and Generative Assembly Structural Analysis (GAS) for Mechanical Designers. Some advanced functionality provided by Elfini Structural Analysis (EST) will also be covered depending on customer requirements.  The course starts with a short, basic introduction to the ‘Finite Element Method’ theory for linear static FEA, and continues with hands-on training using CATIA V5 Generative Structural Analysis workbench to analyse single parts and assemblies.

GPF: basic concepts of FEA and general analysis process;  conduct simple static analysis on the single part using finite elements, produce a final report of analysis results.

GPE: use advanced FEA pre-processing techniques and postprocessing tools, including the concept of defining virtual parts to avoid excessive geometric modeling. Perform frequency analysis on a single part, and use adaptive meshing to achieve pre-defined accuracy.

GAS: conduct FEA using existing assembly. Create connections between assembly components and assign appropriate connection properties. Create an analysis assembly from existing meshed parts.

Objectives:  Predict why, when, and how to use Finite Element Analysis; Use different element types and shapes to mesh a part; Apply clamp, slider, and iso-static restraints; Apply force, moment, and displacement loads; Compute static analysis; Visualize images of analysis results and produce the analysis reports; Assign a connection property to the appropriate analysis connection; and more. 3DEXPERIENCE for Mechanical Designers Transition

This Transition to 3DEXPERIENCE platform (3DT) course addresses the needs of Mechanical Designers. Learn how to design a new part with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, insert the part in a product – position and constrain it; assign material properties and compute weight, then complete a simple drawing. Finally, you will learn how to create a new part version, replace the original part and update the product. This fundamental Transition to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform course addresses the needs of Surface Designers, who need to work with styled parts. It will first teach you how to design a new part with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. You will also learn how to create a new part version, replace the original part and update the product.

CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE Mechanical Design Fundamentals

This fundamental CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE course is aimed at Mechanical and Sheet Metal Designers and will teach you how to create simple parts, assemblies and drawings. Learn how to use different feature-based tools to build, review and modify a model; learn how to create and analyse assemblies and how to produce a drawing with different views.  Finally, you will learn how to dimension the drawing and annotate the views.

Objectives: Create a new PLM object; Create and constrain 2D sketches; Complete 3D model using features; Review and edit features; Create parameters and formulas in the 3D model; Create a new product and add components to it; Move components within a product by positioning them using assembly constraints; Create simple projection views and section views of 3D parts; Position the views on a drawing sheet; Add dimensions and annotations to the views; Finalise the drawing sheet by adding borders and title-blocks.

Desktop Engineering Ltd (DTE) is a Platinum PLM partner, accredited education and certification centre in the UK for Dassault Systemes.

DTE’s accredited CATIA V5, Composer, and 3DEXPERIENCE software training courses have been developed over many years to provide concise, comprehensive training to users of various engineering software suites.

Our Certified Trainers all have Industry Experience and lead the training sessions which includes instruction and demonstration of all relevant commands and functionality.

The exercises are all structured and designed to ensure that the user has to think about how to employ functionalities and techniques just taught. Our highly skilled trainers ensure interactivity plays a major part during the course schedule, enabling the attendee to query as they garner information and understanding throughout the day.  Due to our experience of the software, we like to go beyond what the standard textbook preaches and introduce ideas and concepts that are not available on any other course.

Virtual Training

Comprehensive training from our certified Dassault Systèmes trainers using seamless over-the-Web connectivity.  Using the same content as classroom courses with live hands-on training with access to Companion Learning Space course materials during the live session.  Online learning benefits those who cannot travel to our Oxfordshire offices.

Dassault Systemes Certification Exams

Fundamental understanding is assessed with multiple-choice questions. and answers are submitted online live during the exam.
