#BeyondBIM2021

‘To the future … and Beyond!’ 20 – 23 April 2021

Desktop Engineering Ltd (DTE) has organised a line-up of industry recognised leaders in construction to deliver a set of presentations in this year’s BeyondBIM 2021 symposium.

#BeyondBIM2021

An online virtual event again this year, the keynote address will be given by Dale Sinclair Director of Innovation at AECOM. Looking ahead, Dale sees that the construction industry must connect all the data inherent in the design, construction, and operation of building in order that “net zero” carbon emissions can be met.

Other speakers include Ben Haldin of Fulcro, who with many years of working with contractors in helping with construction simulation and process, sees that the industry is constrained by rigid contract stages. Only when a collaborative mindset and agreements are in place will all the benefits of a “digital twin” deliver its real value.

Two leading architectural designers form part of the symposium. Mattia Santi draws on Dale Sinclair’s view of data driven design and construction by arguing it also defines the method or process of producing the design of an object. Abdulmajid Karanough, Director of Interdisciplinary Design at Drees and Sommer will present his view on how communication across the different disciplines of a building project are vital to deliver the benefit of a BIM approach.

James Brown of Prodtex and Patrick Mays, Dassault Systemes, will be giving a presentation on their detailed simulation studies to optimise construction activities on a major London shopping and residential development. It shows how using 3DEXPERIENCE DELMIA digital technology, normally associated with automotive or aerospace manufacturing, can aid the decisions on strategies for offsite or onsite construction.

Whilst BIM is a term readily used within the industry for some years now, it’s clear there is more understanding, appreciation and training needed to deliver the full benefits of this approach. BeyondBIM is our talking shop for voicing these needs.
