Enhances Business Offering

DTE provided the hardware, licenses, training and ongoing support to underpin Flitetec expansion plans

Desktop Engineering (DTE) has supplied Flitetec Ltd (part of STAG Aerospace), a provider of aircraft interior formed plastics, with a CATIA V5 manufacturing solution, Post Processors written by DTE using ICAM software for a variety of three and five axis MAKA CNC machines and a 3D scanner. As part of the engagement, Flitetec will receive CATIA V5 certified training and ongoing support from DTE. In part this technology investment has been made to enable Flitetec to work with aircraft manufacturers who stipulate the need for CATIA functionality.

flitetec

Flitetec maintains and produces non-structural vacuum formed plastic mouldings and assemblies. It specialises in the
approved repair and manufacture of spares for all types of aircraft interior products. Prior to working with DTE, Flitetec had to modify every programme it used if there was a requirement for it to run on a different MAKA machine. Now, the manufacturing process is seamless, automated and requires no third-party programming expertise.

Neil Baldwin, general manager at Flitetec, said: “With CATIA and the ICAM Post Processors in place, we can receive customer information, read it and respond to it quickly and efficiently. The software provides us with a competitive edge and design efficiencies. In addition, the 3D scanner allows us to reverse engineer parts, resulting in tooling being created more accurately. The advice we have received from DTE will help us achieve our business objectives.”

 Easy to Use Solution

CATIA V5 is an easy to use solution tailored to the needs of small-to-medium sized businesses. It is the leading product development solution for manufacturing organisations, from OEMs, through their supply chains, to small independent vendors. The diversity of CATIA V5’s capabilities allows it to be applied in a wide variety of industries, including aerospace, automotive, industrial machinery and shipbuilding.

Geoff Haines, managing director at DTE, said: “Flitetec has made an investment for their future, and we look forward to working with them to deliver the expected returns.“
