CATIA Version 4

V4 Foundation - 4 days

The foundation course provides a comprehensive grounding in the use of CATIA V4 for trainees who are new to this software. The course deals with the interface and the basic modelling functions, including solids and the sketcher. Drafting is covered towards the end of the course, thereby enabling trainees to return to the workplace with a sufficiently rounded knowledge to start using CATIA within their workplace.

Skills: Introduction to the “CATIA Philosophy” covering the different types of geometry representation/hybrid modelling, solid generation, fundamentals of 3D modelling and part editor. Also covered: basic filleting, view and drawing creation, detailing and plotting.
Pre-requisites: None

V4 Solids - 3 days

This course is dedicated purely to developing modelling skills using the CATIA Solids toolset. It extends the basic skills learnt in the foundation course.

Skills: model generation: principals of solid modelling. Solid model generation and part editor. Using surfaces in solid modelling, creating repetitive geometry, filleting, draft and rib creation, Handling solids in a multi-model environment, sessions, and work areas. Working with imported solids. Generation of views, sections and details: marking up geometry, generation of dimensions and text. Creation of drawings in a multi-model-environment: modifying text and dimensions, plotting.
Pre-requisites: V4 Foundation course

V4 Surface - 3 days

The surface course covers in depth the range of free form surfacing and styling commands available within CATIA. Split into two sections, the part of the course looks at basic curve and surface definition/manipulation to develop a thorough understanding of the core principles of surface modelling. This then provides the basis for the second section in which the advanced surfacing features and their scope for use are covered.

Skills: Basic surface modelling, lofting, curve laying, extending/breaking surfaces, construction of faces and volume model, construction and modification of curves and patches, filleting, use of laws, surface and curve evaluation.
Pre-requisites: V4 Foundation course

V4 Advanced Methodology - 2 days

The Advanced Methodology course is for CATIA users with a good knowledge of solids and surfaces and provides a range of advanced techniques using these methods in combination that enable the most complex of models to be created as effectively and efficiently as possible. It presents a range of best practice techniques that can dramatically improve the use of CATIA in a range of situations.

Skills: A range of advanced techniques for using solids and surfaces in combination to achieve optimal modelling results.
Pre-requisites: V4 Foundation, V4 Solids, V4 Surfaces courses and at least 3 months of extensive CATIA use.

V4 Drafting and Detailing - 3 days *

This course is designed for those people whose main work will be the production of drawings. It builds on the foundation course and covers in depth all the drafting functions available.

V4 GPS - 2 days *

This course covers the integrated analysis (stress, part analysis and optimisation) capabilities within CATIA, so that design engineers can use these tools within their design process.

V4 to V5 Advanced Surface Migration - 3 days *

This course is designed to cater for the V4 user looking to migrate to V5. The course covers all the topics from the V5 Advanced Surface course with the addition of full descriptions of how each exercise would have been completed in V4 and how it is now created in V5. A full migration list, V4 palette function to V5 icon equivalents, is supplied.

V4 to V5 Advanced Solid/Part Design Methodology Migration - 3 days *

This course is designed to cater for the V4 user looking to migrate to V5. The course covers all the topics from the V5 Advanced Part Design Methodology course with the addition of full descriptions of how each exercise would have been completed in V4 and how it is now created in V5. A full migration list, V4 palette function to V5 icon equivalents, is supplied.

*Available by arrangement

Other courses can be developed covering CATIA V4 modules not listed above. Charges for these will be dependant on the number of people and courses required.
